So your kid’s autistic: A handy guide to not being a dick from a mom of an autistic teen daughter

1. Stop calling yourself an Autism Mom and making it all about you. 2. Meltdowns suck, but they’re harder on her than you. Work with her to figure out her triggers and don’t dismiss them. 3. Some types of behavioral therapy which focus on emotional regulation can be beneficial but anything that rigidly demands forced eye contact, forbids stimming, or aims to make her act “less autistic” is abusive. 4. Autism Speaks is garbage. 5. Vaccines don’t cause autism. 6. Focusing on causes and cures is both ableist and pointless. 7. Listen to and respect your kid as a valid human being. 8. Make whatever accommodations she needs to function optimally without making a big deal about it. 9. Be prepared to fight if school is unwilling to make accommodations. 10. Know your kid’s educational rights as a disabled person and make damn sure her school honors them 11. Don’t just rely on teachers and therapists to understand autism. Talk to actually autistic adults to gain a better sense of what to expect for your child’s future. Don’t know any? Follow blogs with the tag #actually autistic. And encourage your kid to do the same, especially as she gets older. 12. Your kid is capable of a lot more than you may think and she’s growing up. Stop infantilizing her and let her make mistakes.

Any and all constructive feedback from the #actuallyautistic community is welcome. I’m trying to continue to grow as a supportive parent.

There are parents who got stuck in the "denial" stage and couldn't face their kids and accept.

I really hate it when parents of autistic kids use phrases like “I know they’re in there.” Bitch they’re right in front of you! You haven’t lost them! They’re not locked away like a final boss in a video game!! This is your child As Is! Love them for who they are not what you wish they would be! Fuck!

I REFUSE to be apologetic for my autistic child. I’m not sorry she’s sensitive, I’m not sorry she has meltdowns, I’m not sorry she doesn’t like to interact with others, I’m not sorry 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not gonna waste another minute explaining to someone “sorry she’s autistic”, because I’m just not sorry anymore tbh

Buhuhuhu...I am at this point to forgive rushed story lines and Unrealistic event of Slbp ES all for the sake of studying Boys' characterization and narrative style. So you can guess why my rates are more generous.

Masa - 1st (9/10) - I love political intrigues...and I kind of understand why Masa was late to decide whether to join Hojo or Toyotomi because even though Date are powerful, siding on a losing clan in a war could still devastate them into nothingness (even great families across history are decimated when they lost a war due to the damage and political backlash...you know...POLITICS...not to mention how victors ruthlessly kill the children, wives, siblings, in-laws, elderly parents and grandparents of their defeated enemies to "cut the grass and weed out roots" to prevent them from becoming powerful enough to dipose them in the future) and that is why Masa wanted info on both sides first and due to their seemingly evenly matched strengths (Hojo being powerful clan for hundreds of years and Toyotomi being the powerful conqueror of the west), he had a difficult time choosing...and letting MC be a hostage to one clan was a HUGE gamble not only for her life... But for his clan.

Saizo - 2nd (8) - I want to smack the head of that elder's son!! But cliffhanger!

Yuki - 3rd (7) - He's sweet.😉😉

Kojuro - 4th (6) - This one could have been my fave, but I could think of many ways to solve the child problem and let him go home....AND KOJURO opt him to stay! Is he trying to use a child for his own ends?? Maybe? But nevertheless, I don't like it.

Mitsuhide - 5th (4) - MC's cooking helpsthe sick get cured, but disease seems to be respiratory in nature. And besides....this one ends in a cliffhanger! I hate cliffhangers!

Nobu - 6th (3) - sigh...why is NOBU unbelievably cruel in here? If he suspects Murashige was betraying him, the ES showed no signs to indicate Araki's deception but his retainer's disgust in the sword mochi thing that comes from Nobu's actions...Why Nobu? Are you bored? Pretending? If so, that is not a good reason to antagonize new allies this much if you want Divine Rule. There are many ways to exert dominance, but this reason isn't enough for me. This is a poorly made motivation/plot tool to make Nobu bad...sorry.

SLBP “The Bride’s Memories, Fleeting as Tears in Rain” Event Review

Props to Voltage for exploring past the traditional happily ever after! This event has been a little surprising to me in several ways - first, I didn’t expect it to ever exist, and second, well…let’s just say there is no correlation between how much I like a character and how good I thought their stories were, lol. My personal ranking, from least to most fave:

image

In Masamune’s ES, Hideyoshi and the Hojo clan are preparing to go to war against each other. Both of them want the Date clan to help…and both of them want MC as a hostage as well. WTF? The retainers are split, Masamune’s obviously reluctant to do anything, and MC ends up getting chloroformed by Hojo sympathizers at some point, only for M to conveniently save the day at the last second. She convinces M she wants to be a hostage, and the story ends up with MC in a palanquin, on her way to…somewhere.

My tolerance for unrealistic bullshit in SLBP stories is pretty high, but this story was just too damn much, lmao. Masamune clearly has the position of power here as the third party…can’t he just declare that he’ll ally himself to the first clan to rescind their hostage demand?! Hideyoshi and Masamune seemed to get along ok in M’s Act 2…I’m sure the guy could be made to see reason. I did like the beginning scene where Masamune strokes MC’s hair and lets her sleep in, but to be very honest I kind of thought the rest of the story was crap. ^_^

Personal enjoyment: 1/10

image

In Kojuro’s ES, he and MC decide to take care of a boy from the enemy Ashina clan who’s lost his memories (not sure why they couldn’t have just watched him from a distance, tbh). Except then the whole town becomes convinced that said boy is Kojuro’s “bastard” child from before MC, and gets super mad at him! I’m sure this is exactly how people in ancient Japan would’ve reacted to a powerful man’s extramarital child, lol. In the end, boy regains his memories, the Ashina clan learns about him and declares war with the Date clan over the “hostage” they imprisoned, and that’s that. 😂

I mean… I’m glad the story didn’t end with some bullshit reason to separate K from MC?! Besides that, I’m not really sure what the point of this whole ES was. The plot was pretty boring imho, and Kojuro was absent/distant/not romantic for a large part of it. I’m not sure why MC was so insistent that Kojuro be nice to an enemy child, either. Also I saw that trap coming from a mile away once Kojuro mentioned the Ashina were plotting something, and I can’t say I’m super excited to see how this story plays out.

Personal enjoyment: 2/10

Nobunaga spends most of his ES humiliating his new retainer Murashige. From forcing Murashige to eat mochi directly off his sword (not an innuendo!!) to insulting his young son’s drawing of him to giving a military leadership position to Hideyoshi when Murashige made the most strategic sense, one really starts to wonder how Oda “no people skills” Nobunaga was ever able to get that close to Divine Rule in the first place, lol. In any case, to nobody’s surprise Murashige ends up betraying Nobunaga at a crucial moment, and Nobunaga ends up divorcing MC (this again?! 😂) after a night of astounding sex.

Things I did like about this route: Nobunaga secretly being nice to the son when he thinks nobody’s watching. That sex scene. Nobunaga getting pissed with Murashige claiming his young wife is the most beautiful woman in world (of course, lmao). Things I didn’t love so much: Nobunaga’s total lack of communication regarding why he does the shit he does! I bet we’re going to find out during the sequel that Nobunaga knew all along that Murashige was suspicious. ^_^

Personal enjoyment: 6/10

After saving the road to a neighboring province from kidnappers and murderers, Yukimura truly proves himself to be the hero we all know he is in his ES! There isn’t too much plot beyond that, but this story is full of cute/hilarious moments instead, such as the poor idiot freaking out when he learns that MC’s gravely injured herself after several rounds of telephone, lmao (spoiler: she just cut herself, a little, while cooking). There’s also a bit of drama/angst when the neighboring province tries to poach Y for a few months to handle some problem I don’t remember and he’s reluctant to leave MC, but he eventually does leave, only to quash said problem… and have a cliff fall on him. !!

This story was definitely super light on the plot, lol. But no plot is better than a bad plot, imho! I did really like the little slice of life moments we got between MC and Yukimura, such as his adorable reaction to MC figuring out how to carve a turnip chrysanthemum ^_^ These two dorks are so in love and impressed with each other. I thought it was super sweet!! Best quote: “I cannot put anything or anyone else before you, even in my thoughts.”

Personal enjoyment: 7/10

Mitsuhide’s ES is a cute little treat. Here, the poor guy’s been obviously overworking himself, to the point of not having time to accept MC’s care/food (!). And in the meanwhile, people in town have been collapsing for mysterious reasons! After M himself also passes out, he realizes the townsfolk have been suffering from malnutrition after switching from farming to fishing. While MC teaches them how to cook veggies with the fish (lol), he saves the day by establishing a vegetable/fish trading route, and everyone lives happily ever after! …Except not, because MC finds the guy coughing BLOOD. Uh oh.

I thought the plot was a little silly (do the townsfolk really need some uppity city girl teaching them how to cook vegetables?! lmao), but it was nonetheless a lovely, self-contained, and interesting read! The real star of this story was definitely Mitsuhide himself, who apart from being an overworked sweetheart for the whole ES, also busted out the single best line of dialogue in this event: “When I eat your food…that’s how I know I am home.” Awww 😍 I’m really hoping we learn his illness isn’t terminal in the sequel!

Personal enjoyment: 8/10

Saizo’s story is one of the more adventure-filled ones! Here, the ninja’s been sent alongside Yukimura on a diplomatic mission to one of their more remote territories/villages. Unfortunately, the son of the village elder holds a grudge against Saizo due to murder (understandable). Said son also kidnaps MC and tries to rape her (less understandable!), but of course, Saizo saves the day. MC talks S down from killing the guy, but the ungrateful bastard claims Saizo’s attacked him and has him arrested…! Yikes.

This story was delightfully dramatic, and I really enjoyed it. Not to mention, Saizo was sweeter than I’ve ever seen him before! From buying MC a cord she was eyeing to resting in her lap to talking in the onsen with her to acknowledging that MC’s made him less murderous, this guy showed that he definitely is capable of doing the romance thing when he wants to. Not to mention, his saving MC scene was super badass (The ravens have come…and so has he)!! I’m quite curious to see what’ll happen in the sequel!

Personal enjoyment: 9/10

I may not have loved every story in this latest event (cough Date clan), but every CG looks so good, like wow! My favorite is definitely Nobunaga’s ;)

Anyway, what did you think of this event?? ^_^

(spoilers!) On Kojuro Act 2

I know a lot of friends don’t like Kojuro Act 2 for several reasons such as Koju leaving MC and Hide being evil…and I do not contest that, but personally, I LOVE IT….EVEN THOUGH Kojuro isn’t my main bias.

Yes, it has a lot of downer scenes that somehow make you like him less, and there are scenes where all you want is to pound your phone with something hard because…uggh!! (Trust me, I almost did.)

But the real strength of the MS is not on the fluffy romance we expect from an otome game…but on Kojuro’s inner conflict and how his subsequent choices affect MC and Date Clan.

Yes…Kojuro Act 2 is more about DRAMA than ROMANCE.

There will be SPOILERS (but not that detailed) here, but think of the Trolley Problem. In essence, Kojuro has to make a choice, both aren’t easy. Sacrifice one he loves to save the clan or stay with his beloved and watch his enemy destroy those he swore to protect. No matter what he does, he has to pay a very huge price. And this is clearly seen on the MS, the agony he felt as he weighed his options, and its serious consequences. Yet he has to make a choice. You can guess what he did, brace yourself and watch your temper, guys. You HAVE to.

Yonezawa retainers wanted blood, and they wanted MC to “pay the price” since Kojuro “become rogue”. I really should give praise to Date Boys. Masamune and Shigezane were really supportive of MC, despite the odds stacked against them. Masa could have rebellion in his hands in the light of Kojuro’s absence but he stick to his own beliefs. It was epic, I tell you. Shigezane even helped MC convince Masa to let her leave and look for Kojuro so that Kojuro can go home, because despite Kojuro’s actions, Shigezane trusted him still.

MC also faces a similar choice: to be with Kojuro and lose her place in Date clan, or stay in Yonezawa without knowing what happens to Kojuro. To leave means to be branded as a traitor and will be killed on sight…and she isn’t even sure if she will have a home or a place to stay where Kojuro is held.

Yet she braved all odds and faced the risks. I applaud this MC. And even though Kojuro brushed her away when they met (he did it to protect her from Hide), she still cling to him even though it hurts. At this point Kojuro is really a piece of—. But we soon see that everytime Kojuro shoved MC away, it was killing him inside because all he want is to see MC safe, yet in the moment of desperation, he failed to see how his actions hurt MC. And because of that, he broke his walls to embrace her once again. Because in the end, he still chose his own heart.

Meanwhile, just as Kojuro faced a difficult obstacle, we see Hideyoshi in a rather different light: the ANTAGONIST. Perhaps one of the reasons why some players liked this MS was that people get to see a new side of him. Yet, I know others HATED Hide in this, and understandibly so…he is no longer the cheeky flirty monkey we once knew and though he smiles…it is void of joy. He is scary, because he is trully a schemer and a master manipulator in this MS, and not even Kojuro saw him coming.

I will not expound here what Hide did to make Kojuro’s life miserable, but anyway, as the chapter progresses, MC began to see that Hide, too, was also suffering from his own hard choices and how he quietly laments that his methods is slowly killing him inside, just like Kojuro. Hideyoshi sacrificed his everything to achieve Divine Rule, even though he loses his own heart. Kojuro sacrificed his own heart to save Date clan, even though he will be seen as a traitor.

For whom does these people fight for? Love or Duty? And what will be the consequence? And what will they give for the sake of their goal?

And these are the questions Kojuro Act 2 is all about. And this is why I love it. And I hope for those who plan to read Koju Act 2…will be able to find the beauty of it as I do.

Possessiveness 101

Totally cool: “Hey, do you want to be exclusive?”

Red flag: “No one but me is allowed to touch you.”

Totally cool: “It makes me feel weird when you flirt with other people, can we talk about that?”

Red flag: “If you loved me, you would stop being friends with them. You KNOW it makes me jealous.”

Totally cool: “I hope we’re together forever. I’m so in this for the long haul.”

Red flag: “If you ever left me, I would kill myself.”

Totally cool: “Your mom is really unkind to me, can we try to minimize how often you bring me when you visit her?”

Red flag: “Your mom hates me, you need to stop talking to her. She’s trying to ruin our relationship.”

Totally cool: “I love you so much, oh my god.”

Red flag: “It’s a good thing I love you so much, because no one else would. You’d be alone forever without me.”

Other important red flags to keep in mind: someone who wants to jump into emotional/financial co-dependence very fast (like moving in together right away, or becoming each other’s only confidantes right away) and won’t take no for an answer; someone who tries to minimize how often you leave the house or interact with other people; someone who threatens you or themselves or your family or pets or possessions or financial future; someone who uses guilt to keep you from leaving a relationship.

Very important reminder: You do not need a reason to leave a relationship. Neither does the other person (or people). A relationship is over when one of the people in it says it’s over, period. Obviously it’s kind to take the end of a long relationship seriously, but abusers and manipulators have lost the right to that conversation. Lie if you need to–your safety is much more important than their feelings.

Trust your instincts!

Could you explain he difference between self defense and a fight. Because I hear people mix these terms up all the time.

In a fight, both fighters are aware that they are, in fact, in a fight, and the goal is to win by either making the opponent give up, knocking them out, or, if fighting in a ring or cage, by decision from judges. Fighting is usually done under a set of rules, too, whether that’s from an organization you’re fighting under, or a set of rules agreed to by the two fighters. Fighting in this sense is also done using mostly punching and kicking, joint locks and throws in a straight forward manner, as in, both are playing a game, strategizing, looking for openings to strike. In fighting, if it’s point sparring, speed is more important than technique and/or power. In fighting in a cage or a ring, a combination of all three things is needed. This is what you’d call a balanced fighter.

In self defense, the martial artist is not expecting to fight, but rather to avoid fighting altogether. This means awareness of self and surroundings is the main point in self defense. If anything suspicious is noticed, the martial artist moves away from it to avoid getting caught in a situation. If needed, the martial artist may call the proper authorities to come and help. In case of an emergency, say a fire, the martial artist has the training to remain calm and may be able to lead others to safety. If faced with a fight, it will usually happen by surprise. And the goal becomes either:

- If you’re alone - To defeat your opponent as fast as possible, or to escape unhurt. If you have to fight, it should be because it simply cannot be avoided, and in defeating your opponent, the martial artist has four levels of technique:

1. Infliction of pain (e.g. A joint lock)

2. Temporary incapacitation  (e.g. A strike to the groin)

3. Permanent incapacitation (e.g. Breaking a knee)

4. Kill

Part of the goal when fighting in self defense is to use the lowest level of technique possible, and only increase if the opponent is persistent with his attack, or if the opponent presents a serious threat.

- If you’re with friends or loved ones - To protect them by positioning yourself between them and the assailant if possible. If not, to attract the attention of the assailant towards you. This can be done by, first and foremost, remaining calm, and talking to the assailant yourself, keeping him on you as much as possible. If you can fight, and you decide to do it, you have to make sure you can take down the opponent in seconds (keeping to whichever level of technique is appropriate), as you must keep your loved ones safe and as out of the way as possible. However, if you’re not 100% sure you can take down your assailant without getting your friends, loved ones, or yourself hurt, then it’s better to cooperate (e.g. if all they want is your money, and you see no chance of getting out the situation for fear of the safety of your loved ones, then just give your money away and hope the assailant leaves. Situation like this, chances are, they aren’t looking to hurt anyone and just want the money or your valuables.)

Your life and that of your loved ones is more important than any material possession.

In self defense, technique execution, coordination and a fair level of power are more important, and though speed balances everything out, reaction time and the ability to “read your attackers move” or “see ahead” is more important than speed.

In a fight, you have an OPPONENT. (someone who competes against or fights another in a contest, game, or argument; a rival or adversary, a contender, a challenger, a fellow contestant.)

In self defense, you have an ASSAILANT. (a person who physically attacks another; an attacker, a mugger, an assaulter.)

In each situation, you must act accordingly.

They tried to say that health and safety regulations would ruin the economy

Have we noticed a pattern yet?

To say humans are inherently good, one may miss the fact that greed, indulgences and vainglory is also part of their nature.

To say they are inherently evil, one forgets that humans are also capable of love, good cheer and restraint.

If humans are indeed good, then they have failed.

If humans are evil, then the concept of morals should be nonexistent.

In the end, being good or evil is their choice.

Oh my, Nobuyuki’s ES is such a satisfying roller coaster, isn’t it? I love it! I love it so much. It’s fast but it’s meaty and I daresay, believable, and it’s all thanks to the way MC is written. She’s so good here. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS MC!

And if I have to pinpoint the moment Nobuyuki falls in love with her.

It’s this moment.

Also, I am fistpumping when this is her reaction to Nobuyuki’s sudden proposition.

Nobuyuki MC, YOU ROCK!

yandere nobuyuki

Would you be able to give a headcanon or write something about Nobuyuki's yandere side? Like his reaction if MC said another man's name in bed or if she wasn't in love with him and tried to leave? I know voltage would never show something so dark but I'm curious to know just how "dark" you think Nobuyuki would get. You don't have to do this if you feel uncomfortable of course! Thank you in advance. :)

I am all about yanderes recently. Fuck yeah. I’m going to put this under a cut because it might disturb some people, maybe…? Warnings for death, forced isolation, manipulation, possessiveness… General yandere stuff.

Earthquake in Philippines

Guys there was just a magnitude 6.1 earthquake in the Philippines

The epicenter was around 60 km from where Iive, in Castillejos, Zambales. It occured around 05:11 PM and lasted for 30 seconds. Initially it was reported at 5.7, but it was raised to 6.1 in later reports. Various international reports list it as 6.3 or even higher.

Thankfully, it happened on land, far away from the sea, so there are no impending tsunamis. However, as of writing several aftershocks have been recorded and fatalities have already occured.

I was still at work when it happened and I almost got stuck since I couldn’t use the stairs to go all the way down from the 36th floor of my office building due to a disability. Thankfully no strong aftershocks occured after so a service elevator was able to rescue me after I went down to the 26th floor. I am now at home and am safe, though still shaken.

Please be careful, Philippine peeps around Northern/Central Luzon!

Hey I've been writing on here for over a year and I have 50 followers. Stop trying to guilt trip people for having more followers when you have more than I'll ever have

Hi, I guess you’re referring to the post involving pens-swords-stuff. I admit that my jealousy ate me up at the time, and I was wrong saying the things I did. As it were, I had apologized on the same post. I don’t know if she’s seen it yet, but I do hope she’d be willing to accept it if/when she does see it.

Things food snobs are wrong about

“Organic” isn’t better for you or for the environment. It actually means nothing of any significance at best and is sometimes even the more wasteful, more hazardous option.

A shitload of “natural” food including a lot of imported produce is grown and harvested through slave labor in inhumane conditions.

Pizza, fried chicken, french fries, fast food, candy bars and chips ARE nutritious. They are loaded with good things. Just because they have an abundance of excess fats and might not be healthy as a staple doesn’t mean they are “nutritionless” or that their calories are “empty.” Those are hokey buzzwords pushed by the people in charge of how much you pay for the alternatives.

Eating healthier costs more. Much more. Looking down on people for their reliance on cheaper food is extremely classist and expecting everyone to be able to live off fresh veggies and cage-free meats is insultingly unrealistic in the modern world.

“Processed” literally only means the food went through some kind of automated process. This can be literally the exact same thing a human being would have done to the food for it to be labeled “unprocessed.” Being processed does not make something less healthy.

Chemicals with long, scary names are part of nature. An apple is full of compounds you probably can’t pronounce. A shorter ingredients label only means they didn’t bother listing all 300 things the product is actually made of and HAS to be made of.

Preservatives, artificial flavors and other additives are not the devil. Most are harmless and in general they are part of the reason you haven’t already starved to death or died of a food borne illness.

MSG is not bad for you at all.

The fact that something might be made of “scrap” meats like pig snouts or chicken necks only means one thing: that we didn’t waste perfectly normal, edible meat.

I DON’T KNOW HOW I FORGOT THIS IN MY FIRST VERSION OF THIS POST BUT GMO’S ARE NOT DANGEROUS TO EAT. GMO’S ARE SAVING LIVES. YOU’VE ALREADY EATEN GMO’S BEFORE YOU EVEN KNEW THE TERM. IT’S FINE. EAT THEM.
