Anyway, yes there is symbolism in every picture, to how busy the backgrounds are, to the books they are reading, and to the arrangement of the candles and their sticks. Even the candles lengths themselves have meaning.
just watched the first episode of enterprise and so many of its choices are just so insane…obviously we’ve talked about the theme song but it’s not just that there’s a theme song. it’s that the song is so weird. “we’ve come a long, long way” for a show that’s a prequel. Christian rock for a science fiction show. Captain Archer brought his fucking dog space.

In the US, several checkpoint inhibitor therapies are currently approved for human use, but while these drugs can treat a wide variety of cancers, they only work for some patients.

Hawaiian Hoary Bat (Aeorestes semotus)

Habitat- Hawaiian Islands
Size (Weight/Length)- 25.5 g; 7.6 cm
Diet- Insects
Cool Facts- The highly endangered Hawaiian hoary bat is only found in small sections of the Hawaiian Islands due to its recent decline from habitat loss and wind turbine collisions. Living in small groups, these bats are essentially blind at night and yet it’s their prime hunting time. Using echolocation, Hawaiian hoary bats let out high pitched squeals that allow them to pinpoint the location of their prey and catch the insect midflight. During the day, they sleep in small groups in tree tops and tucked away from predators. By tracking the bat’s echolocation call, conservationists are gaining a greater understanding of the Hawaiian hoary bat’s range to create protections for these tiny friends.

since we get to see Spock basically quote Sherlock Holmes, it is now my belief that he's read the books.
Sherlock was Spock's first crush. He found his logic and demeanor interesting and flattering, appreciated the way he never had time for people that weren't willing to listen to him and/or some sort of asset to him. Appreciated that Sherlock plays violin, especially when he needs time to just sit and ponder some big mystery. Found his chemical dependency illogical but could over look it because he was amazing to read about. There wasn't anything Sherlock couldn't achieve with his logic and higher level of thinking. And then Spock grew a bit older and realized that wasn't a crush at all, it was more along the lines of representation. He related to Sherlock, he wasn't crushing on the man. With that knowledge he decided to spend his spare time rereading his mother's old books.
Only on his reread the only character he could seem to pay attention to was Dr. John Watson. The way he acted without thinking, how angry he would get with Sherlock for being so apathetic towards everyone and everything that wasn't the case he was actively involved with. The way Watson seemed to balance out the parts of Sherlock that were disliked by the vast majority of characters in the story. The head strong soldier who was willing to risk it all to help someone in need. He found his infatuation with John Watson fascinating. Eventually he finishes his reread of the old stories and gets caught up in growing up.
He recalls Sherlock Holmes from time to time, typically in passing, often when he looks at a fellow Starfleet officer and says, "Once you eliminate the impossible whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
And then he meets the hard headed, fiery, strong willed cadet who already - in his first two weeks in the academy - made a reputation for himself being quick to act, James Tiberius Kirk.
This is a fascinating and highly accessible look into the "element hunt" that filled out the bottom half of the Periodic Table of Elements.
It's a tale of chemistry, physics, war, international relations, incredibly petty academia politics, and SCANDAL.

As I wrote in my book, “There is perhaps no single vote members of the U.S. Senate take with as much long-term ideological importance than that of a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, and asking them to keep that vote, and that vote alone, separate from the ideological promises they make to their voters, and to themselves, is bizarre.” The old norm worked when party conflict was mild enough to create a court that felt, and perhaps was, largely nonpartisan. But those days are long gone. Making matters worse is that the Supreme Court has gone from being undemocratic to being anti-democratic. Lifetime appointments are iffy under the best of circumstances, but the vagaries of retirements and deaths have given Republicans a control that makes a mockery of the public will. Five of the court’s six Republican justices were appointed by presidents who initially took office after losing the popular vote (and, in the case of George W. Bush, after a direct intercession by five of the court’s conservatives in Bush v. Gore). Donald Trump was able to make more appointments in one term than Barack Obama was able to make in two.

When Kirk appears in Strange New Worlds, I want either of the following things. 1) Spock and Kirk meet relatively soon, and we all cry as we see them meet for the first time. Or 2) Spock and Kirk spend the whole show never interacting and constantly missing each other in the most hilarious almost meetings you've ever seen, until they finally meet in the final episode of the show.
