So I read this about L According to Spotify, Lauren is releasing under her own independent record label “Attunement Records” under AWAL Recordings. What does this actually mean? Is it good or bad? Has she got out of her contract with sony?

It's actually a good thing. I've been pretty sure, since April, that Lauren was free from her original contract. I wasn't ready to voice it, because Columbia was still showing her on their roster. What made me think that? Lauren was releasing songs on other projects, besides her own. If she was still under Columbia, then Temporary would have said "featuring Lauren Jauregui", and somewhere would have said she appeared on the record "courtesy of Columbia Records". The same thing with "While I'm Alive". Not only did it not say "featuring" her, but Femme It Forward actually owns the copyright of the song. So. Lauren sold the rights of the song to them. She wouldn't have been able to do that if she were still signed to a major label like Columbia. She was doing all these other things, so she could afford to make her own album and visuals. She don't want to be in debt to a Label, or enslaved by one. So, how is this a good thing? Though it is true, Sony owns AWAL Recordings, they are still an Independent label under Sony. Attunement Records is Lauren's own record company that she will be doing her music business through. She is now in control. She owns her own masters, and has creative control over her own career. She granted AWAL licensing rights to distribute, market, and promote her music, for a agreed upon number of months/years. AWAL is a three tiered company. They are looking for new talent, that either don't want to sign to a major label, or won't be signed to a major label until they have been developed more. Lauren skipped the first two tiers, and signed a third tier contract with AWAL's record label. The record label will do more for the artist, than the first two tiers, for additional percentages. For Lauren, AWAL will market, promote, distribute, get her on playlists, and get her radio play, for a bigger cut of the profits. They can provide advance money, but it has to be paid back. They can provide additional money for videos and stuff, but again, it has to be paid back. With AWAL, Lauren is responsible for her own career. AWAL is supposed to do nothing without consulting with her. She has control of the songs that go on her albums, and when singles/albums will be released. She is responsible for getting them recorded, getting the artwork done, and all that. She creates her art, completes it, hands it in, and they will do their part. Lauren is supposed to be consulted, and be in agreement with everything done, every step of the way. The only real downside, is that Sony owns it. You can bet, somewhere in that AWAL contract, it says that if and when Lauren wants more support from a bigger label, Sony will have first dibs at signing her. That's really why Sony bought AWAL in the first place. That's probably how Lauren ended up signing with AWAL in the first place. She wanted full control, which no major label would give her. Sony wasn't really ready to give her up, so they gave her what she wanted with AWAL. Sony will still be making money off her, and not really spending much, if any, to do so. It has the appearance of a win-win. Lauren gets what she wants, and Sony gets what they want. We'll see how it all works out in the end.

Just Remembering...

I was watching some music videos of Camila again and I am still amazed at the outrageous amount of subliminal messages and indirect messages that this girl left in those videos. For someone in the public closet it is common, to be able to shout from the rooftops what you are, but only for people who can read between the lines.

My favorite videos are several, but the ones I like the most are CITC, Consequences, Bad Things and Shameless.

I could put them all if I wanted, but those four videos give me a special vibe because they have a lot of totally special coding for our fandom.

Camila knows us too well, folks. Very good. And I think she would give us so much more if she is able to get out of her contracts and she begins to make her plans come true that I am very excited for her to do in the future.

Time will tell. Time will tell if Camila is allowed out of the public closet once and for all. I have a feeling if that happens, she will come out as bisexual or pan, but maybe something along those lines.

And if she does, I also hope she doesn't end up with indirect messages from her because they have always been one of the most entertaining things in her career and because of what some fans call this fandom FBI because we know how to decode them.

What's next?............

Let’s see if we can’t theorize, and speculate, what’s going to happen next year, for Camila. If album 3 is the last of her original contract obligations, what are the possibilities that could happen next?

Option one: She actually resigns with Epic. I would think this would be the least possible of the options, but it is possible. Why might she do this? To have the chance to buy back her own masters. I don’t think she would resign with them, unless there was a chance she could get ownership of her music.

She would have negotiating power. She would insist on a buy-back clause. She would also insist on creative control, and control over her own image. If Epic wouldn’t agree to her terms, she’d go elsewhere.

Option two: She could sign with another Sony Label, or any other big three label. If she does this, she would still insist on all the things I said above. She could also try to negotiate, instead of a buy-back clause, more like 50/50 ownership, with the masters reverting back to her, 100% after a certain number of years.

She could sign a 50/50 deal, instead of a 360 deal, but have it stipulated, it’s only on things music related. That would mean, the Label and herself, would split everything, sales, streams, tour, merchandise, but it would leave everything she does not music related, to her. Meaning, any movies, sponsorships, and shit like that would be off limits to the label.

Option three: She could create her own Label, and sign a licensing, marketing, distribution deal with one of the big Labels. They would have to hash out percentages, but she would have complete control…just much bigger backing with the bigger Label.

Option four: She could do what Lauren did, and go completely Independent. Go through her own Label, and sign a distribution deal with an Independent Label. She would have to use more of her own money, but she has what she needs to get herself started as an Independent Artist.

I’m not sure which direction she will actually take, but these are the most plausible, in my opinion. Whichever direction she chooses to go, I do not see her signing anything that makes her lose control over her own career and image.

If she does anything with another major Label, she may not be able to own her masters completely, or right away, but I do think she’ll have it written in the contract that the ownership reverts back to her, or she gets the chance to buy them back, after so many years…The norm, is usually ten years after release.

Here’s to hoping she chooses wisely!!!

This ridiculous complaint of yours anon ... you really do not understand that not all artists manage their careers in a similar way and that one of them decides to make a more commercial career does not mean that it is bad, and less if it is well managed. There you have Taylor.

I think you forget, and most of the fandom forgets that Lauren had something that Camila didn't and that was time.

Camila came out with her solo career first and didn't have the time Lauren gave herself to have better contracts. She's been tied to a screwed-up contract since before she left the band and Lauren hasn't had to carry that shit. It is true that she was with Tyren for a long time too but, she was not like Camila with Shitmila who forcibly those sons of bitches wanted Camila with an artist who does not even have a good career and is not even good at singing.

Lauren has had a freedom with her career that Camila hasn't even dreamed of, but that she might have a reason behind her. Also do not forget that she has long term plans, she has her own brand which is MilaMoon and maybe she will get something good out of that.

Enough with the same story, folks. The girls have had to sacrifice too much to get where they are for you just to complain.
