Anniversary of APOLLO 11 MOON LANDING

On July 20, 1969, 109 hours and 42 minutes after launch, Neil Armstrong and Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin entered the lunar lander ‘Eagle’, made a final check, and the Eagle undocked from the lunar orbiter ‘Columbia’, where the third member of the crew Michael Collins, stayed in orbit around the moon. Partially manually piloted by Armstrong, the Eagle landed 0 degrees, 41 minutes, 15 seconds north moon latitude and 23 degrees, 26 minutes east moon longitude. Armstrong stepped out, and Aldrin followed 20 minutes later: human beings stepped on the moon for the first time. The two men spent 21 hours and 26 minutes on its surface. One of the astounding aspects of the mission was the seeming simplicity of the technology used to get man to the moon. According to Oliver Gassmann, professor of Technology Management, the mobile phone in your pocket has one million times more memory than the Apollo 11’s computer. Same about the procesor: the latest phones typically have more than 100,000 times the processing power of the computer that landed man on the moon 50 years ago.

“It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn’t feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.” –Neil Armstrong

Independence Day wasn’t the day we became free as a nation.

July 4th, 1776 was the day we declared our intention to be free, whatever the cost.

This day is not about the freedom we possess, it’s about our resolution to obtain and defend our freedom even against insurmountable odds.

That’s the spirit of America: the little guy who won’t back down.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day, America. 🇺🇸

Guys I hear something

Happy 4th Of July X

Our fathers’ God, to thee,

Author of liberty,

To thee we sing;

Long may our land be bright

With freedom’s holy light.

Protect us by thy might,

Great God, our King!

I think the really insidious part of the whole "I don't need to forgive the people who hurt me" attitude that's so prominant nowadays, is that it perpetuates the cycle of abuse.

Not every person who does bad things has a tragedy fueling their behavior. But a lot of them do. You can be a victim and also an abuser. Those are not mutually exclusive things. In fact, one of the best ways to become an abuser is to take the pain of the injustice you've experienced and to let it fester inside you. And that is what happens if you don't forgive.

And before anyone tries to tell me that you can't forgive someone because that means letting them to continue hurting you. That's not what forgiveness is. Resuming a relationship with someone who hurt you is Reconciling. Forgiveness is when you choose to let go of the anger and the hate and the bitterness and heal. I know this is an honest misunderstanding, but it's a dangerous one.

You don't have to remain a victim in order to forgive. But if you do not forgive you will become the same as your abuser. That's not a risk, but a fact. The cycle of abuse can be broken but you have to choose to do it.

You have to choose to heal. You owe it others and to yourself.

The way you change your immediate reactions to things is that you catch yourself having an uncharitable/bigoted/overly judgmental thought and you catch it and replace it and then you do that a hundred times a day for your whole life and eventually one day like five years later you realize that you think differently now and you’ll always be working on something but that’s how life goes and that’s fine.

1) You should assume good faith (good intentions, the most flattering interpretation of their speech) when taking with people, 2) it is normal to do so unless you have a serious, ongoing reason as to not do so, and 3) if you do not regularly approach people, especially strangers, in good faith during discussions, then that is a sign of something wildly unhealthy within your psyche.

4) You do have options to change how you think, 5) it will require work to train your brain to approach people sincerely and 6) you may have to stop hanging out in spaces that are toxic or destructive.

But, 7) by tempering your mind, 8) taking accountability for how your words harm others and 9) not hanging out in places that give you an addicting, self-righteous, sense of anger, 10) you can move towards having meaningful, adult, conversations, honestly and openly with others, 11) in such a way where social safety and kindness allows you to be intellectually curious, exploratory, and to grow.

Ma'am I don't think it should have surprised me but it somehow?? didn't occur? to me that you reblogging things was you recommending the source materials. Which is incredibly obvious now that I'm typing it out.

I get my media recommendations the old fashioned way: by watching someone I follow on here go on an unhinged reblog spree of media related content until I eventually decide to go "alright, what's all this then"

Look I believe deeply in research and studies and careful analysis of heaps of data ("In God we trust; all others, bring evidence.") but something deep in my bones tells me that being outside playing so much you inevitably attempt to eat dirt is, in fact, a healthy thing.

if pointing out that the age of getting a phone decreasing along with the prevalence of short form video as the dominant form of social media content during the most significant collective educational gap in recent history all of which happened during one of the most significant windows of psychological development in a human lifetime has had a deleterious effect on the attention spans, self-regulation, impulse control, social skills, tech literacy, and actual literacy of zoomers and gen alpha. if pointing out that that is a real and serious problem makes me a boomer and an old crank who has fallen for “kids these days” propaganda someone find me a porch and a rocking chair so i can yell at you to get off my lawn

Cosmere Inktober Day 31 : Silence

Cosmere Inktober day 31 : Silence

CAN´T BELIEVE IS LAST ONE! it took a few years of my lifespan, but it feels good to be able to finish the challenge.

Anyways, here´s Susebron if you have read Warbreaker you know the secret that must be kept in secret :P

When I was younger (high school aged) I wrote a fanfic for My Little Pony (MLP). By all measures, it was terrible; there were pages and pages of pre-plot details about business practices and logistics for an OC who was flagrantly a Mary Sue. I hardly mentioned any canon characters, the plot was mostly an afterthought and half baked, etc.

In a few years, I grew enough to recognize MLP had devolved into a silly children's show, that my pages and pages had no literary merit, that fic writing was not a serious hobby.

I deleted it.

In college, with joyful friends who taught me to love life, I came to see that I had so much FUN writing that fic, unburdened by any thoughts of an audience or expectations of quality.

I regret deleting it.

Now, I start new projects, and they are terrible, and I savor their creation.

as a protestant there’s some pretty crummy portrayals of protestants in media but honestly i get sooooo angry on behalf of catholics for all the horror movies revolving around nuns and priests and the catholic church specifically. like. LEAVE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST ALONE. STOP BLASPHEMING THINGS THEY CARE ABOUT

This is so important!!

Sunday Will Come

painting of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Three crosses stand in the background, with Jesus nailed to the center one and the two thieves on either side. in the foreground stand men, women, and Roman soldiers all talking or watching. at the foot of Christ's cross kneels his mother Mary.

“I think that of all the days since the beginning of this world’s history, that Friday was the darkest.

But the doom of that day did not endure.

The despair did not linger because on Sunday, the resurrected Lord burst the bonds of death. He ascended from the grave and appeared gloriously triumphant as the Savior of all mankind.

painting portraying Jesus Christ's resurrection. the tomb is in the background with the stone rolled aside. in the foreground kneels Mary Magdalene, looking up with awe and joy at the resurrected Jesus Christ who stands before her clothed in white.

Each of us will have our own Fridays—those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces. We all will experience those broken times when it seems we can never be put together again. We will all have our Fridays.

But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death—Sunday will come. In the darkness of our sorrow, Sunday will come.”

—Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, “Sunday Will Come” 2006 (emphasis added)

Hullo

Just learned I have 2.5 large HW projects due tomorrow morning, as well as:

An early-morning shift at work,

A deadline for deep-cleaning a portion of the apt.,

A test.

(I shouldn't be online right now.)

"lean not on your own understanding" because we can't have the whole picture because some things can't be understood from a human perspective within time etc etc. However also because I, specially, am an idiot.

It's so weird how many people just don't understand forgiveness, redemption, or penitence/penance, at all.

Like you explain that a person or character did something bad but then became penitent and was forgiven and/or redeemed of it, and people will say "OH SO THAT MAKES IT OKAY??" like.... that's not....... the point??????

Then Aslan turned to them and said: "You do not yet look so happy as I mean you to be."
