PERIL 🔥 !! i finally found a design for her i like yayyyy!!
she is constantly steaming and glowing around her core bc of the fire in her. in my design, the gradient is dark around her whole face and down her neck bc she is actually charred from the heat! the skywings are based off birds of pray for me, but the fluffed feathers on the back of their necks are burned off for peril! she's bald noooo!!
While I'm preparing all the art for the main worlds I'm working on right now, take this!
I noticed there was a lack of good humanized designs (PoC especially) for many of the arc protagonists so I drew my own!

my peril redesign!
this also isn't very new... I'm busy with other stuff but still want to put out some wof content. This design's process vid is on my tiktok!
I really like this design for peril - I felt that her look in the comic is nice, but it doesn't really portray firescales to the extreme that I would have personally liked to see. I'm a huge fan of seeing how powers manifest themselves physically, so I gave peril some flaming wing and stomach patterns. I think it would be super cool if her underbelly, specifically by her throat, looked a little like a lava lamp! Same with her tail - you can see her spikes turn warmer as her tail gets hotter near the end, as if they were melting too.

Drew Peril, but she's half pony from mlp. Honestly I'm extremely proud of this
It's Peril! One of my favorite characters, I made this mostly to practice drawing smoke with a character I like. I think it came out good! Though this art style is sooo painful to color in, I usaully use the paintbucket tool for my other art. Though it looks so much cooler when I just color in with brush strokes.

Last three tribes done! Mudwings, Sandwings, and Hivewings!
I have decided that Mudwings will have splotches of green ranging from a subtle dry-grass color (rare) to a mossy green (common) to a deep forest green (uncommon), but also very rarely may be a desaturated blue (very rare).
Sandwings in this also have a rare, recessive trait that gives them venom in their fangs, though then again it is pretty rare. Standard color ranges but it also dips into the army-green area. (so the range for their darker areas is a desaturated brown to a dark yellow to an army-green)
Finally I have decided that all Hivewings have pink eyes. Why? Idk it looks cool and I’ve decided that they all have gorgeous pink eyes. Also their black areas aren’t usually a grey black but more like subtle shades of dark blue, green, purple, or very rarely red to REALLY harness those NightWing genes rather than being splotches of Just Black (since most nightwings have SOME color to them)
Plus a bonus traditional artwork of Peril because my stylus tip broke and I’m waiting on the replacements, so it’s gonna be a lot of transitional art for a bit:

In my headcanon, adult Peril really wants a cub with Clay, but because of her fiery ability, babies do not live to hatch. The reason for this is the high temperature, due to which the egg is formed incorrectly

I'm at my aunts house and I got bored so BOOM my peril design
Her feathers are sharp and wild because of her manic personality, all the sharp and scattered points also represent the fact that she's really not a good planner as described in her book. It also shows how scattered her brain is as she cannot remember faced well. (As described on the wiki. Thank you wof wiki you are my SAVIOR) Peril is so used to sizing dragons up to fight that she doesn't store their features in her mind. Because they always die so quickly if she does battle them. the blue to represent the hottest fire can ever get, because of her fire scales, or in this case, feathers. Due to her being a firescales, Peril was so used to dragons being afraid of her, and this just seemed to feed her manic nature even more. And Scarlet being Scarlet DID NOT HELP. And I think that though skywings would kill their firescales and animus dragonets the moment they hatched, I feel as if firescales would have been useful in many different ways, one would be, yes, defense, but others could be blacksmithing, architecture, ect. It just makes me sad that these dragons would kill their young just because they were deemed evil because of something genetic. And lastly, her star pupil to represent her determination. She goes through so much from the moment she hatches. Being a firescales means that now everyone is out to get her and kill her just because of something she was born with. But she is strong and lives through all of it. From being abandoned by kestrel, to being made a killing machine, to meeting Clay and freeing the DoD, to help save scarlet from burn, free sunny and help her and thorn, to saving Clay's life to all of the events in escaping peril. She is one of the strongest dragons in the books. Not just because of her physical strength but also her just being her. It represents her passions and her desires. It represents how far she would go for her friends and how much she would do for them.
All in all, I'm really proud of this design, and I really like it because peril is and will be my favorite skywing ever. She's so silly and squeezable. I love her development throughout the books and just her in general. She is my Billy ever.
Again, with Mr Microwaves' design and opinions, I really dislike how they completely change her design from the original. SHE IS BRONZE as described in The Dragonet Prophecy. But in the graphic novels and the actual cover of Escaping Peril, they completely push that aside and make her bright orange. Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE her design. I just wish Tui kept to her original description. But I understand that they wanted to lean into the fact that "oh! This dragon makes everything burn the moment she touches it!" And it shows that with the slight glow that she has in escaping peril. Along with all the smoke surrounding her.
