Just giggling about the double standard between Taylor and Karlie. Karlie is expected to uphold insane standards and expectations especially when it comes to being associated with toxic men. But Taylor is just having fun and being silly it’s all a part of her journey. It’s just funny.

Speech before singing Mine (talking about Speak Now)

I talk a lot about how folklore was the first time I was writing about characters and stuff, but actually Speak Now I was inventing scenarios that definitely weren't happening in my life. I wrote this song Speak Now about interrupting a wedding of an ex and like.. I was 18 when I wrote that. None of my exes were getting married. I never interrupted a wedding, it was just a fantasy. And I think that's one of my favorite things about Speak Now, it was so fantasy, it was so fantastical, I think it was the first time I was thinking in cinematic, you know 'this isn't my life', but what if it were? Like watching a movie, and trying to write what those characters might be feeling. I say this because I wanna play a song, that when I wrote it I was writing about all these relationship things that haven't happened to me. There's drawer of my things at your place, and thing like that. And working through fights and not just breaking up. Anyway, so those were things I was not par-taking in at 18 and 19, when I wrote these songs. It's been such a privilege and such a treat to go back and re-record them 'cause relating to them now.. it's really crazy to go back and listen to these songs that at the time were a fantasy but now feel really relatable to me. And um... this is called MINE.

In May 2015, a blind item came out that said Karlie was moving things out from Taylor's apartment.

2020: Five years later in the song EXILE, Taylor referred to this fight that they supposedly had in the same way.

in 2019, Taylor on the album LOVER made it clear that her muse is from the USA, that New York screams her muse's name and that her muse has a garden gate in the West Village Karlie is from the USA, New York screams her name and she had a garden gate in the West Village.

That place was very special for their relationship because Taylor was seen there very often and she moved to New York and bought an apartment near there to hang out with Karlie in her apartment.

2019: A month after the album LOVER came out, Karlie sold her apartment in the West Village which has a garden gate.

And a year later (2020), in EXILE Taylor refers to this by saying that this person was her town, but that she is now in exile watching this person out (??selling their special place and moving out??)

October 2018: But the same day or the next (it's confusing because of the time zones) of the first wedding Taylor sang I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE completely sad as a surprise song. Taylor and Karlie met when Taylor was performing that song

Two years later - 2020 - Taylor would refer to these weddings in EVERMORE. In RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME Taylor sings about how the person she used to love left her and shortly there after married and built a new life without her

In this song there is a clear reference to a tradition in Jewish Weddings. Karlie converted to Judaism and had a Jewish Wedding

"Hair pin drop": We all know that this line is gay and what it means in this context is that Taylor's silence and her not attending Karlie's two weddings was something that confirmed that there was something more than a friendship between them

In HAPPINESS (2020), Taylor tells how she spent seven years with this person and how she felt like she was in heaven. Taylor wrote this song a month after it was seven years since she met Karlie

This is a clear reference to Karlie because in REPUTATION and LOVER, Taylor relates heaven and religion to this person. Karlie was a Victoria's Secret Angel

I understand Taylor wanting to have their second child close to their first. That’s valid, and the biological clock is a real thing. What I don’t understand is why she didn’t get real with us and warn us it was coming. Then we could make our decisions whether or not to stick around for the next two years, ten years, forever closet … whatever the new plan is supposed to be.

She’s always so careful to keep us hanging on just a little while longer. Why not fucking level with us, for once? Yes, we’re all adults and she doesn’t owe us a coming out. That doesn’t mean it’s fun to be attacked by the rest of her fans and subjected to constant homophobia from them, which she KNOWS flares up when the antis get a “win” like this. All she had to do was give us a heads up so we could prepare ourselves, or be honest about her plans and let us tap out if we need to. 

And no, singing Coney Island the week The National drop a new album doesn’t count as a warning.

You know everyone talks about how in love Taylor is with Karlie, but we, well me at least, never though about how in love Karlie is with Taylor. I know it’s mostly because Taylor writes and sings all these songs about her. All we really have are the moments Karlie has talked or gushed about Taylor. But we also have all the photos of Karlie looking at Taylor like the sun rises and sets with her. The post earlier on here made me think about this.

The Alcott Analysis

So now that The Alcott has officially been released I wanted to do an analysis of some of the lyrics and how I think they might relate to Taylor. Disclaimer: I know Aaron said Matt wrote the main parts of the song and Taylor only added the dialogue parts so many of these connections might be a coincidence, but I also think it’s possible Taylor could have had more input on the song than they’re letting on since there are so many themes and motifs that perfectly relate back to Taylor’s music. This is just meant to be a fun clown theory

Like many others pointed out, the whole first verse is very “Help I’m still at the restaurant, still sitting in a corner I haunt, cross legged in the dim light, they say ‘what a sad sight’” and seems like the opposite pov of RWYLM

“It’s the last thing you/I wanted, it’s the first thing I/you do, I tell you that I think I’m falling back in love w/ you” // “I love you ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard” // “Uh oh I’m falling in love, oh no I’m falling in love again”

“I had to do something to break into your golden thinking” // “Lost in the labyrinth of my mind…you would break your back to make me break a smile”— this is directly related to the following ⬇️

“And there you are sitting as usual w/ your golden notebook, writing something about someone who used to be me…I sit there silently waiting for you to look up” // “Did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen, time moved on for everybody else, she won’t know it, she’s still 23 inside her fantasy, how it was supposed to be…and you’re sitting in front of me” -> Taylor is stuck in her own head reminiscing and writing about the past (the golden age) and this person sitting in front of her is trying to break her out of this nostalgic escapist mindset. I think this may be a direct reference to the film Midnight in Paris which is all about nostalgia and escapism–much like the song Paris on the Midnights 3am edition–and specifically to golden age thinking, a phrase used in that film. Here are some tidbits that I think are worth noting

@chickawah23​ made a really great post about the possible Midnight in Paris connections. Here’s a screenshot from that post that does a good job summarizing the important parallels

There definitely seems to be a connection between Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights, and the folklore chapters that were released in Aug 2020, specifically the sleepless nights and escapism chapters. I think it’s interesting that exile is the last track of the first chapter and first track of the second chapter–almost like the second chapter is a direct continuation of the first which again links Midnights to this escapism theme. And there’s been a lot of exile references lately (exile ends, doors, 8/3, etc)

Even though the back and forth dialogue between Taylor and Matt at first sounds argumentative, I think it could also be read in a positive way. This person is going to ruin and wreck Taylor’s plans and Taylor is going to gladly let them. She welcomes the curse on their house. “I’m begging for you to take my hand wreck my plans that’s my man” // “For you I would ruin myself a million little times” // “I wish to know the fatal flaw that makes you long to be magnificently cursed…He’s gonna burn this house to the ground…So yeah it’s a fire it’s a goddamn blaze in the dark and you started it” // “Dear reader, burn all the files, desert all your past lives” // Taylor is the one that chooses to burn the lover house down. She’s the one holding the lighter on the Midnights album cover and striking the match in the lavender haze mv (here’s a really great post about what that might signify). Furthermore, the willow performance and description make me think that the curse on Taylor’s house was actually her own doing–she’s not only letting this person wreck her plans but is helping them do so. So the burning, wrecking, ruining, cursing/spell casting are all metaphors for the same thing—destroying Taylor’s closet and possibly her career as a result of that

Honorable mention: The beat almost sounds like a heartbeat no? Wildest Dreams??

I honestly can’t get over the video of Taylor looking at the lesbian couple of blowing them a kiss. I saw it like 20 times already. The way she held her head straight the whole time but as soon as she saw them she like melted, that little smile, her eyes look sad like she is remembering something, 15 second stare and then kiss.

That whole thing was understanding that only people that know it will get. She talked to them (and us) without saying anything. I’m so sad for her but at the same time i’m so proud and happy because she seems to be getting more and more comfortable 🥹

I know, this was so sweet. And you said it, seeing her facial expressions change… people who get it, get it 😭

Folklore/Betty speech, April 28th:

I thought you know, it's been a long time that I've been writing, like, painfully autobiographical songs about my own self and my own feelings. Obviously folklore has my feelings completely bled in through it, but I created these characters for the very first time, and really just decided to, like, try creating characters who could feel these things.. sort of by proxy. Some of my favorite characters were this teenage love triangle. Where like.. you know.. over the summer, and specifically during the month of August, this teenage boy named James, really screws things up with the love of his life.. and her name is Betty!

In Karlie's Met Gala snapstory that you shared.. at 3.05.. is that Taylor's left leg? That black boot looks like the one she wore to the afterparties! This is so exciting aaahhh.
