Tokoyami gets his gender switched and his Quirk inverted and her immediate reaction is to just own it. "I am your goddess now, bow before me, peasants!"

I know My Hero Academia Smash!! isn't canon, but I accept 'Tokoyami is genderfluid/non-binary/transgender' as canon on principle. Homeboy/girl is rocking this.

Adding Tokoyami to the guardian au! Decided to make his design much more simpler then Katsuki and Izuku, felt it was more fitting for him (he has wings hidden under his cape as well)

Tokoyami is the Guardian of Death but has slowly developed the nickname The Final Voice. His role is mainly to guide the spirit’s of the dead and protect the border between the living and dead. He also delivers last words to the living family/friends of the one who died, although it’s not part of his role.

Like Izuku he was shunned due to his darker type of role and link to the idea of death. BUT unlike Izuku he had a little friend, a crow he would feed whenever he saw it. It followed him till the day it died and became Dark Shadow. It wasn’t till years later that he met Katsuki who was the first guardian that didn’t seem to mind his presence. in fact Katsuki encouraged him to be more active in his role (mostly cause Katsuki was getting so many complaints about haunted places and ghost, he just wanted the guardian to do his job). As for Izuku, he hates him. Wherever the dragon goes, death must follow, and it was a job Tokoyami didn’t want. War to him is a death too soon and Izuku was only war. Hearing that Katsuki killed the dragon was joyful news to him (of course Izuku being dead was a lie). He does eventually meet Izuku in his human form and is completely unaware of his the dragon and guardian form (especially since he never knew Izuku’s name when he was in dragon form). They two end up getting a small friendship between each other after the human form meeting. I haven’t decided when or if he ever learns that Izuku was the dragon

Since Shoji got a new hero-outfit in the last chapter, I wanted to try and tweak Tokoyami's as well. Not sure this is one I'd settle on, but I do like the idea that his cloak can be more easily opened to give him more maneuverability or in case he needs to take it off.

Also, Dark Shadow gets a grown-up form too and you can't convince me otherwise!

Silly flower shop au where tokoyami’s shop is called Shadow’s Bloom or something and all his bouquets are gothic themed in black, purple, or “similar shades of darkness”. He is incredibly popular for his spider lily bouquets. He also knows a lot about flower language so he has some obscure flowers you can’t get that easily. This is still a quirk au so dark shadow is just hanging out around the shop

So, like, we’ve all made the conclusion that I’m sad (not actually, just socially, you don’t have to worry!), and I realize it was bird boy’s birthday a few days ago, so....

The corridors of the U.A dorms were dimmed and quiet. However, the same couldn’t be said for Y/N dorm. She tossed and turned, curling into a small ball. The nightmares and her fears had a grip on her. She opened her eyes, which shone a crimson, and tears freely fell down her face. Y/N put a hand up to her face, feeling the dampness. ‘Huh?’ 

Though she couldn’t remember what nightmares plagued her, there was a feeling she couldn’t get rid of. A deep sadness inside her. A longing for someone. She tossed the covers off her, standing up to look at herself in the mirror. Her long dark hair was a mess, as well as her pajamas which were slightly turned to the side. Y/N fixed her shorts and her tank top before looking at her face.

She opened the door leading out to the hallway and quietly closed it behind her. Y/N made her way to where Tokoyami’s dorm was. ‘He would be awake at this hour,’ She reminded herself, pushing his door open.

Tokoyami sat on his bed with dark shadow freely moving. He held a thick leather book and seemed deep in it’s contents. “Y/N!” Dark shadow greeted her, causing Tokoyami to look up at her. “Y/N? What are you doing awake this late?” 

She pat Dark Shadow’s head before taking a seat next to Tokoyami on his bed. “I can’t remember, but-” “Have you been crying?” Tokoyami’s calloused hand tilted her chin towards him. “Yes.” “Why? What’s wrong?” She took a deep sigh, scooting closer to him to rest her head on his chest. 

“I woke up feeling really sad for some reason. Like I was longing for someone I can’t remember who. But it felt like my soul was yearning for them in this life.” Tokoyami listened tentatively. “I believe that’s what they refer to soulmates as.”

Y/N tilted her head upwards to him, and gave him a questioning look. “The longing you feel. It’s commonly referred to as a soulmate you’re after. Soulmates were lovers in a previous life that couldn’t be together, and they wished to be reincarnated in the next life so they could love peacefully.”

His words brought goosebumps to her skin as she pondered. “Do you feel a longing for someone?” He pulled her head closer, resting his on top of hers. He debated his answer, wondering if it was alright to tell her. Y/N wouldn’t ever reject him, so it was alright.

“Before I knew you. I did. But everything feel’s alright with you.” “Do you think that we were soulmates?” “It is a possibility. You felt familiar before we even actually talked.” He pulled away from her to have her at arms length. “If that were the case, I’ll do everything I can to protect you and keep you happy.”

it was around 3 AM,everyone was already asleep,Shouto included.

until he was awoken due to a scream.

it sounded familiar,he wasted no time and went outside to see where the petrifying noise is coming from.

the sound lead him to a dorm room... yours.

other classmates were already standing in front of the door,all looking terrified.

confusion took over him as he wondered what was everyone looking at.

he pushed his way to the front and the sight caught him off guard

it was you ,,,with your head in your knees,pushed against a wall.

if it weren’t such a peculiar situation he’d almost give you a soft look

you wore a white nightgown and white quarter socks with ruffles ,,,with messy hair,you looked like a porcelain doll.

you stopped screaming but continued to mutter words he couldn’t quite phrase.

“what’s happening to her???” kirishima and mina questioned in unison.

“i think she’s having a nightmare,” Yaoyorozu assumed. “aren’t we supposed to wake her up?”

before anyone could approach ,you started saying something alongside “what do you want from me?!”

“we have to wake her up come on.” Kirishima stated and slowly moved towards you,but then you got on your knees and continued to speak words that can only be analysed as utter nonsense.

“WHY ME?!” “cuz you,my darling,are weak! the league finds you an easy target.” You smirked for a second before making a frightened expression.

at those words everyone froze.

“guys wasn’t some villain from the League identified as a dream invader or something?” Tsu shakingly questioned and Shouto thought back and realised she’s right.

“what are we supposed to do then? maybe the villain can manipulate her into attacking us.” Tokoyami asked.

suddenly Midoriya’s leadership took over. “Uraraka,contact Aizawa Sensei and explain him the situation.” Ochaco muttered “YES!” and charged outside. “Kirishima,Todoroki and I will try to get close to her,the rest,stick here for backup in case she attacks.”

“please stop you’re scaring me.” tears started strolling down her face but she still continued,with a different attitude this time. “you should be scared of me...”

“it seems like she’s resisting.” Shouto presumed.

He raced ahead of Kirishima and Midorya,he grabbed your shoulders and tried to shake you awake.

It seems like it has worked because as soon as he established contact you looked like electricity shot through your body and u opened your eyes fully.

“is he gone- what did he- what?!”

“hey,hey its okay...” Deku chimed softly.

before anyone could say another word,mr Aizawa came rushing in. “students go to bed,I will handle this.”

“But sir-“ Shoto tried to protest (which wasn’t like him at all,but you were involved) which resulted in him being cut off by Aizawa. “ go to bed Todoroki,we’ll discuss this with the class in the morning.”

everyone silently made their way to their respective rooms. shouto was honestly worried sick and couldn’t sleep that night. not only was he worried about you,he also couldn’t help but wonder if the League will attack soon. his guess was that Aizawa interrogated you about any information that could be helpful.

in the morning ,,, when he got ready for class, you weren’t there.

mr Aizawa entered the classroom and said,quite nonchalantly “,alright we have a lot to cover today so I just wanna talk about last night and get it out in the open right away...” everyone tensed at his words. “miss Y/L/N went to release an official statement,the one she confessed to me last night. she will be back for your next class with Present Mic. the Leage of Villains situation is still unclear and we will try to restrict our students in order to protect them in any way we can,wait for further guidelines which will be released some time this afternoon. also keep in mind there is a possibility the school will close until further notice... of course that might not be the case but dont be surprised if it happens. this year is exceptionally difficult for our students due to many villain attacks but...try to think positively.”his words cut the class like a knife.

the silence was erupted by a wave of protest

aizawa silenced them and continued with the daily school activities.

soon enough the door opened revealing you.

shouto’s mood dramatically changed,although an outsider couldn’t see that.

he almost smiled seeing you,you didn’t wear your casual clothing you wear around the dorms,nor the normal school uniform,you wore a black blaser,black pants and a tie.

he assumed you tried to dress professionally since you gave an authorised statement but you just looked cute in the attire.

soon enough worry overtook him again.

you took a sit on his left in the back row.

everyone came to you and started asking questions about everything.

besides a very vivid picture of the nightmare,and everything you learned about the League’s plans ,you couldn’t say much more than what Aizawa already announced.

after class started, Shouto finally got to talk to you alone and just said “i’m really glad you’re okay. i was worried sick.”

YOUR HEART DID A GYMNASTICS ROUTINE

“uh... thank you Sho. it means a lot that you care.” your tone was ,,,sad?

“what if he uses you again though ? you can’t let him... he might... he might hurt you.” this is the most empathy he had physically portrayed since he was a child. he knows he can be distant sometimes but,it doesn’t mean he doesn’t care ,,,just doesn’t know how to express it.

“we don’t know what are his abilities but I need to try and get information out of him...” you looked exhausted saying that.

“why did he choose you though?” as soon as he said it,regret consumed his mind because he remembered what you said when you were unconscious.

“i assume they consider me weak ,,,an easy target?” you pouted at that, a habit he noticed and honestly found endearing.

“you are not weak...would a weak person get themselves into the same dangerous situation just for the well-being of the ones around them???”

“I don’t know Sho,I’ll try my best and maybe it creates an impact.”

“it has to.”

ok so you were overly endearing and still managed to not overstep his boundaries

but each villain attack

and each school activity ,,,every time he’d win and outdo everyone,you were there to greet and congratulate him.

it started out with casual praise,a gentle smile and a gracious bow.

but as your relationship blossomed from polite classmates to somewhat close friends

what he found amusing is that you didn’t try to be better than him,you weren’t bitter,you weren’t here to top everyone.

which he realised with fond interest ,mostly because in the hero course everyone has a superiority complex trying to be the best,himself included.

but you didn’t care about that.

thats why he liked you so much.

,,,anywho the first time a hug occurred was during the provisional hero license exam.

it was phase one,you eliminated the seiai students alongside tsu,momo,shoji and jiro.

you made your way over to the place where the lucky 10% wait for the next phase and you guys saw Shouto

now ,,,maybe its because of all the stress and emotions but seeing Sho made you the happiest.

“hey Todoroki, are you the first one of us to pass?” - Momo asked.

before he could answer ,you came to him and wrapped your hands around his torso.

The rest of your friends were shocked (although Momo’s face soon turned into a pleasant smile),

Shouto was still puzzled even after you pulled away.

you hid your face into your hands hoping there’s a kid with a quirk that can make the earth swallow you.

after a few seconds of him trying to think of something to say he just blurted out “you mean a lot to me too.”

you were kinda shocked but happy,besides that can mean just platonic (but you secretly hope it doesn’t)

after that it became a tradition that you hug him after every succes story you guys experience.

ok so basically y/n is like different than Shouto in EVERY. POSSIBLE. ASPECT.

they’re open,flirtatious,empathetic and carefree ,,,and Shouto is obviously very different lol.

so of course it was strange that shouto and you became such good friends

truth is,it was a relief when you hung out,he didn’t care about his hero duties or Endeavour troubles.

you are probably the only person who can make him fluster ,,,well not fluster per se,more like get a reaction out of him.

and one day during an exercise where all you had to do was wait and y/n was like “hey shouto can i pls hold your hand?”

my boy was like “???” physically confused but obliged nonetheless. even though the reader was like “its okay if you dont want to,this doesnt mean anything its just-“

you held hands and at first he didn’t quite care but later, since it grew into a habit,he’d simply imply he wants to hold your hand

Of course he would never say it,it feels unnatural considering his background but hes ,,,touch starved.

and since it became a routine the others grew accustomed to it as well (except Bakugo who would be like “OY did I miss something???”)

and Sho would glare at him,obviously.

but on the inside,he felt ecstatic because all he ever needed was a friend,will it grow into something more?

he wasn’t sure.

Anyway I'm done catching up with My Hero Academia, here are my 2 cents:

Heroes shouldn't have families.

In my personal opinion, Tokoyami deserves more spotlight and development.

And I'm not just saying that because he's my favorite but he's the character who has been most alluded to as a crucial, interesting, or strong character.

Examples:

-To start, he's got a bird head and that apparently has nothing to do with his actual quirk. We don't see canonical examples of him exhibiting avian behaviors even though the fandom Really Wants It, so he's not like the characters whose quirk is "frog" or "rabbit". It doesn't seem to affect his entire body, just his head that is so strange. I want to know what his family looks like, if they're like the Todorokis and the Asuis and they all have varying degrees of bird.

-His actual quirk is Dark Shadow, which is unlike the other quirks seen in the series. He has a sentient being living inside him that can communicate and has feelings and he can Sometimes control it but can lose control of it. Not to mention it was suggested that Dark Shadow gets more ravenous when Tokoyami has negative emotions of some sort. He doesn't seem to actively 100% control Dark Shadow and asks Dark Shadow when he needs to engage in some kind of combat or attack. There is no indication of where it came from in terms of familial lineage.

-He is consistently noted as a very strong character, within the ranks of Midoriya, Bakugou, and Todoroki. He did very well in the entrance exam and the sports festival. No one ever escaped Fatgum's fat until Tokoyami did.

-On that note, Tokoyami had an Entire Thing about going to rescue Hawks because he cares so much about his master. He was crying over Hawks and yet he doesn't show up again until several chapters later. Why.

-Both Tokoyami and Bakugou were captured by the League of Villains because they had something of interest to them, but Tokoyami was freed.

-Almost everything about Tokoyami would give off the impression of someone who's malicious and evil. Very dark, avidly enjoys dark things, has a Shadow Monster living inside him and stronger in the dark. But he's fundamentally good at his core, not wanting to harm others.

-Also the fact he likes goth things and dark things but he can't really be in absolute darkness because of Dark Shadow. That's so ironic. He can't go out in daylight because Dark Shadow is weaker but he can't really go out in darkness either because Dark Shadow can Wreck Havoc.

-There are examples that suggest that Tokoyami and Dark Shadow know more than they may seem to lead on.

Tokoyami just has so much potential to be a critical character why haven't they done anything with him yet.
