i think the reason people like jolene by dolly parton is because it doesnt villainize the opposing female like most other songs do. most songs written about a man lusting over another woman wont hesitate to say awful things about the other woman. however in jolene, dolly is respectful of jolene and talks about her as though she is just a person who is stronger than her, but still a person that she can ask for kindness from. i suck at explaining things but hopefully thats comprehensible
