I’m Very Tired. You Probably Heard That Russia Destroyed The Kakhovka Dam To Slow Ukraine’s Counter

I’m very tired. you probably heard that Russia destroyed the Kakhovka Dam to slow Ukraine’s counter offensive. here’s something I didn’t quite realize: since this February, the Russians operated the dam in juuuuust the right way so that as much water would build up as possible when the snow melted and spring showers started. and then they blew the whole thing up.

40,000 people may need to be evacuated. I don’t really have the energy to say anything else right now.

Hospitallers Medical Battalion: actual angels can confirm. they’re combat-zone medical services - you know how humanitarian groups like MFS and Red Cross have to pause operations due to the Russians fucking shooting at humanitarian zones? yeah, these guys don’t pause for bullets, they fucking walk into them and they bring out anyone they can.

Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation: you can choose from a number of various fundraiser projects here, if you’re feeling particularly picky. for those of you who balk at the idea of supporting anything military just please remember that things like vehicles and drones aren’t just for military use, they’re also for evacuation and finding the wounded and they’re fucking vital.

KSE Foundation: similar to the above, KSE has multiple projects you can choose from to donate to. looking at it right now, one of the projects with the lowest amounts of money raised thus far - despite being started in April - is Seeds for Ukraine, which will help Ukraine recover from the ecological devastation Russia has been wreaking (and with Ukraine, the countries that rely on Ukraine’s grain exports that Russia keeps trying to steal).

Come Back Alive: do these guys even need the introduction? they’re Come Back Alive. I’m kissing all of them.

United24: Zelenskyy’s brain child, and the official fundraising platform of Ukraine. Mark Hamill recommends the fundraisers for drones in particular.

UAnimals: Nova Kakhovka’s zoo got… pretty much completely swept away. all zoo residents except the birds have drowned. UAnimals has tried throughout the occupation to keep the animals safe, and they’ve been reporting on the status of the zoo. I don’t really know what to say except that I hope they’re able to save the pets and strays in the towns along the river.

You can find NGOs specific to evacuation efforts in this post; please signal boost it as well. I’ve listed them but am leaving the links for the op post.

19 innocent people 9 of whom were children (on the playground)—that is how ruzzians call a so-called meeting place of (military) commanders and instructors that was bombed succesfully.

that is how ruzzian peace looks like. occupation, murders, gaslighting, and bloodlust.

I might even pin this just because. Yes.

Long post about so-called Ukrainian “xenophobia” towards russians. If you’re not from East Europe\Ukraine - PLEASE, READ IT.

Me and my friends are really tired from seeing shit like this, so here’s simplest explanation to (almost) every popular agrument and answer to it.

Long Post About So-called Ukrainian “xenophobia” Towards Russians. If You’re Not From East Europe\Ukraine

Starting with definition. Xenophobia = hate for something foreign just because it is foreign. We DO NOT hate russians just because they're russians.

Long Post About So-called Ukrainian “xenophobia” Towards Russians. If You’re Not From East Europe\Ukraine

We hate russians for their warcrimes: both of the past and present.

(Litteraly the day I wrote this thread on Twitter it was another missile attack in the morning)

To put it plane and simple: russians and everything russia related aren't bad for just being russian: russians and everything russia related are bad because they destroying our lifes, cities, kill, rape, stole, occupy, torture and etc.

"But not every russian is related to military! Most of them against war!"

Oh? Really?

Long Post About So-called Ukrainian “xenophobia” Towards Russians. If You’re Not From East Europe\Ukraine

But even without numbers: you need to understand that more often so-called anti war russians are just ignorant to what their country doing. Be against war isn't about just words and position - it's about proving your position action. And by taking none since 2014, russians made it clear that they're okay with war.

"Anti war" russians most likely still paying taxes, and those money lately goes to army. "Anti war" russians, again, didn't do anything to stop war. Hell, most of liberal russians are direct imperialists.

So, if you see russian online and even if they're proclame themselves to be antiwar, in 99% cases they aren't.

Also, I simplifying most of things to better understanding, but you also need to know that without context of East Europe\russia-Ukraine conflict history a lot of imperialistic russian shit can pass though your ears. Just be aware of it.

"But how can they do anything against in such authoritarian country!"

Let's head back to simple math. According to russian sources, there was almost 15k detained (note: detained =\= convicted) for anti-war actions.

Long Post About So-called Ukrainian “xenophobia” Towards Russians. If You’re Not From East Europe\Ukraine

It all may sound scary... Until you look at looses of ru army.

So it is MUCH more safer in russia to be anti-war that is to be pro-war. Does it bother russians? Not at all.

Long Post About So-called Ukrainian “xenophobia” Towards Russians. If You’re Not From East Europe\Ukraine

and don't get me started on how lame it is for country with 144 million population to be afraid of abvously much lesser police force)

***

So, in summary:

Ukranians don't hate russians for being russians. Ukranians hate russians for being bloodthursty, ignorant mass who actively support war and\or don't do a shit to stop it.

Most russians, even "good" ones - likely a war supporter. Yes, they may not a straight forward z-one, but almost 100% an ignorant person who supports war by their money and absence of action against it.

We, Ukranians, have neither the strength nor the desire to look for a needle in our son's haystack.

Keep it in mind and please, do not get into conflicts, the nature and context of which you do not understand. Thanks for reading.

P.S Also there's a really good thread on Twitter that looks over this as a question of basic empathy, so please read it as well.

P.S.S And feel free to ask questions.

"The children have just begun to live. We feel sorry for our country, they (russins) are killing us and no one is doing anything."

Locals have been bringing flowers and toys to the site in Kryvyi Rih since morning where children were killed in a russian attack on April 4. Nine children were killed in a russian Iskander missile strike. Six remain in hospitals, most of them in serious condition.

After seeing Westerners bully a 14-year old boy from Odesa for not wanting to potentially interact with people who are committing genocide of his people on twitter, I felt compelled to return to that hellsite for a while to write a thread to explain why we might feel that way. Here it is, I feel it might be useful for those who don't understand why we're like this when it's "not all russians":

WHY UKRAINIANS DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYTHING RUSSIAN ON THEIR FEEDS: A THREAD
What happened with @qiqikinnie highlighted a tremendous gap in understanding between Ukrainians and Westerners and I felt the need to provide some insight on why we feel that way 👇

WHY UKRAINIANS DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYTHING RUSSIAN ON THEIR FEEDS: A THREAD
What happened with @qiqikinnie
highlighted a tremendous gap in understanding between Ukrainians and Westerners and I felt the need to provide some insight on why we feel that way 👇
Several days ago, @qiqikinnie posted this tweet, which was found by Westerners, who found it necessary to accuse him of racism and xenophobia 👇
(post from @qiqikinnie with the following meme: I see a cool artist (picture of a happy dog), they have "rus/eng" in their bio (picture of an upset dog)"
Putting aside how inappropriate targeting a child from a city under frequent bombardment for it instead of the ones doing, supporting, paying for, and creating fertile ground for the regime that enabled that bombardment through their inaction is,
(picture with text saying: ""xenophobia" towards russians from ukraine: some 14 year old not wanting to interact with people from russia
xenophobia towards ukrainians from russia: bombing mariupol and other ukrainians cities to dust and selling destroyed buildings to people from russia; bombing the hpp in nova kakhovka, which caused multiple towns and villages to get flooded; russian soldiers raping, torturing and murdering civilians in bucha, irpin and hostomel, civilians in mariupol were forced to stay in shelters 24/7 without access to food, water and medical aid because of bombing outside; kids that live in occupied territories are forced to listen to russian propaganda and support russia (and I'm only talking about what happened after february 24th)")
...it seems to me that those responders who weren't bots or outright malicious genocide supporters view this post through a wholly different lens. A lens, that's informed mostly by American race relations with that whole history, and which is thus not quite applicable here 👇
Hate is a feeling, and so it would make sense to sit with that feeling and reflect upon it to understand where it comes from. I'm sure many Ukrainians feel similarly to me and may relate to what I've said here.
I'll readily admit: I feel within me this hatred and I don't want to see anything russian on my feed. And I'm not proud of it. I'd rather I didn't feel that way. That shit eats at your soul. But it is not something you can switch off with your rationality. If it were, I would. 👇
IDK if there's a study about this, but I'm pretty sure this is a trauma response. We are traumatized. We are under constant psychological stress. Being at risk of explosive death everyday when you're sleeping in your bed or going shopping strains you in unimaginable ways 👇
Another factor is the stultifying feeling of betrayal many Ukrainians felt after the invasion started. Despite even the 2014 illegal occupation of Crimea and parts of the Donbas, many Ukrainians remained in the so-called "runet" the russian-speaking sector of the internet 👇
because of the years-long connections they built with people from russia and its other former colonies. But mostly russia👇
We continued staying in russian spaces, listening to russian music, playing CSGO with our russian buddies, all while coming up with excuses as to why we should ignore the nagging feeling of discomfort.
"oh, putin won't be around forever" "oh, the vatniks are just a loud minority" "surely russians have learned about holodomor and crimes of the soviet union and the russian empire at school" "surely they understand how terrible going to war would be" "surely they would stop it" 👇
On 24.02.2022 all of these became unsustainable to maintain. Vatniks were the deafening majority. Jingoism was the norm. And our CSGO mates of many years were too powerless and afraid to stop it. 👇
Protests, in actuality, were too few and far between, and mostly held by soft, bougie urbanites into whom the fear of the nightstick was solidly imprinted. They wouldn't acknowledge that real change would require suffering and inflicting violence.
it's important to note that putin's policy was deliberate and effective. The russian protest spirit died with Nemtsov and Novodvorskaya. It was almost as if russians who had both a conscience and a spine were selectively bred out 👇
The conclusion to all of this is that majority of russians are pro-war, the well-intentioned minority of them is too powerless and afraid to stop it, and Ukrainians are too battered & exhausted to look for needles in a haystack of almost 150 mil. people 👇
To those few russians who are genuinely good and supportive I have this to say: when you see something like Sasha's post above, know that it isn't about you. You're not being accused of anything here. You're alright. And Answering to every "even me? 🥺" post is extremely tiresome
There is also the fact that by monetarily supporting a russian taxpayer, however well-intentioned and anti-war they may be, you are contributing, however small that contribution may be, to the russian budget, and thus, to the russian war chest 👇
Thus, there is a set of objective and subjective factors for why many Ukrainians may not wish to interact with russian content on the internet, and why learning that smth one enjoyed was made by a russian or russian supporter often causes a sharp feeling of disappointment 👇
Seeing anything russian hurts, genuinely. It's a venomous brew of the loss of loved ones, centuries of wrongs committed against us, the inability to enjoy the things we once did, not wanting to finance our own destruction, resentment, pain, trauma, betrayal, and it sucks👇
"But how can we make it better?" That requires a massive societal shift in russia, and time. If you as a russian don't want us to feel that way about you, then you need to make sure that russia removes its forces from occupied territories, compensates adequately for the damage...
...they had caused, recognizes the autonomy of its former subjects and wait for at least a couple decades. Time heals all wounds, and I would really love for it to at least start doing so. Meanwhile, russians dni (END)
P.S.: I almost didn't want to publish this, because these arguments can easily be misused by bigots in bad faith. "Oh, I can't help it, for, you see, it is a response to *trauma* (seeing a Black guy walk through my rich white suburb once)".
This is not it. This doesn't come from a century of white people contorting themselves in mental yoga after losing the economic benefits of white slavery a century ago. WE were hurt, and when we thought we finally overcame that, we were hurt again.

Honor, Maksym.
Honor, Maksym.

Honor, Maksym.

I think about every Ukrainian artist who could have lived a long and happy life and done wonderful things but was killed by russians.

I'm thinking about russian artists who are inherently fascists and state propagandists, and how in the West they are loved and praised.

Indifference to russian crimes, support for russian occupation culture, praising russian artists and justifying their silence about the war - all of this is having a terrible effect on Ukraine now and will have terrible consequences for everyone in the future.

Oh, yeah, they hit Chornobyl NPP...

Yes, of course, russia wants peace and totally did not just fucking attack THAT SAME FOURTH POWER UNIT THAT EXPLODED ON 26 OF APRIL 1986))) The drone severely damaged the NSC (new safe confinement) that was built over the power unit in order to prevent the leak or radiation if the old sarcophagus collapses.

Also, just a quick reminder, russia has full control over Zaporizhzhya NPP in occupied Enerhodar and created dangerous situations there a fair bunch of times (and i mean, something like cutting off power lines that keep power units stable). Also Nikopol district is being shelled every fucking day from the territory of that same NPP, because russians know DAMN FUCKING WELL that AFU won't hit them, in fear of damaging ZNPP. They are using a nuclear power plant as their shield just to kill civilians on a free territory.

Russia is a terrorist state. And if you still think, that Ukraine should sign a peace treaty asap and give up occupied territories — sincerely, fuck you. I don't know how fucking dense you must be to think so after 3 years of full-scaled war.

Sometimes I see this misunderstanding and I'd like to clarify it. When Ukrainian say "russian drones/shahed drones/iranian drones," we don't mean this kind of drones:

Sometimes I See This Misunderstanding And I'd Like To Clarify It. When Ukrainian Say "russian Drones/shahed

We mean THIS kind of drones that can carry a warhead and are essentially used as missiles:

Sometimes I See This Misunderstanding And I'd Like To Clarify It. When Ukrainian Say "russian Drones/shahed
Sometimes I See This Misunderstanding And I'd Like To Clarify It. When Ukrainian Say "russian Drones/shahed

While they're not as large, destructive and difficult to intercept as, say, ballistic missiles, they can still cause significant damage. Russia launches them at us every night, but most are successfully shot down.

I mean, why wouldn't russia bomb Chornobyl NPP, after the literal ABSENCE of any reaction from the rest of the world to it destroying the Kakhovka Dam? They know there will be no reaction now, as well. They know the rest of the world is totally fine with it doing literally ANYTHING.

Why wouldn't russia escalate its violence?

This world is literally not worth the effort that it takes to live in it.

This picture would have been of the Taras Shevchenko monument in Kharkiv. Many objects of historical/cultural significance all over Ukraine are covered by tarps in an attempt to preserve them amidst russia’s constant waves of attacks.

This is what Ukrainians have to do to protect their heritage from erasure by russia. As of today, February 13th,2025, russia has damaged/destroyed 1333 cultural heritage sites and 2185 cultural infrastructure facilities in Ukraine since the full-scale invasion (According to Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine).
