i gotta give otto my 10s in episode two, even tho i hate him, because he was clocking everyone left and right ☠️
aegon? he looked him dead in the eyes and basically told him, "you're the usurper u fucking moron" straight up in his face.
cole's plan? he called it a "prank" ☠️
alicent? he basically told her to shut the fuck up about her sins.
he realized how aegon is too dumb to be a king that he started to miss viserys mid conversation and switched sides for a bit, and was like, "yunno what? this whole thing is a mistake" 😭
the one and only time i fully agree with otto. the man was STRESSED!
House of the Dragon is an enjoyable show, but I think that to really appreciate it you have to have read the books, and I say this as someone who hasn't. The problem is that the first season went way too fast and it didn't develop some characters properly, and even this one just keeps introducing new stuff without giving the viewers time to adjust. I see book readers say how excited they are to see a new character, but I just can't share their feeling because we'll probably see said character for two episode before it's killed off. And this is a big problem in my opinion, because many things that should be heavy with feelings for the characters just fall flat. (ex. blood and cheese)
Where are the slow beginnings? Where are my filler episodes? GIVE. ME. TIME. TO. GET. TO. KNOW. THE. CHARACTERS.
this may be very controversial but...
i think that in the scene when aegon and helaena meet on the stairs after jaehaery's funeral, he doesn't ignore her. i think he just doesn't know how to behave, how to comfort her after this huge loss. no one taught him what to do in such a situation, so he just walks away, feeling the pain that accompanies her.
later, when he needs comfort, he doesn't find it because his mother doesn't know how to do it, not taught because otto never showed it. the circle closes
"It's hard, with fathers."
JACAERYS VELARYON becoming one of my favorite characters. A bastard conflicted with the absence of his dad & the death of his father. Having tried to be a stable, noble, and strong example for his younger brother, he still couldn’t protect him. And even in his wake, he still seeks to please his mother and play the dutiful diplomatic son. -No matter how stubborn he must be to achieve it.

Aegon II: My father named me as his heir
Otto:
Otto realising that instead of selling off his own daughter and ruining multiple people’s lives for a king he doesn’t even like, he could’ve just waited until Rhaenyra became queen and she probably would’ve made the hightower house one of the most important anyway because of how much she cared for Alicent.
GAME OF THRONES — 2.07 "A Man Without Honor" HOUSE OF THE DRAGON — 2.01 "A Son for a Son"
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON — 2.02 “Rhaenyra The Cruel”
After today's scene I don't want to write him anymore
HBO when the writers and creators keep rushing series that could be 13 seasons and 20 chapters long
House of the Dragon: Season 2 Opening + References [*book/show]
i keep sucking at my job but they keep promoting me 😭
House of the Dragon 2.01 x 2.02
Listen, Otto realizing that he helped put a moron on the Iron Throne and then going through the five stages of grief before dipping is peak comedy, bro really fucked around and then found out.
Are you suggesting, Ser Alfred, that my grief drove me to order the decapitation of a child? RHAENYRA TARGARYEN — House of the Dragon (2.02)
rhaenyra: why on earth are they blaming me? WHO would do such a thing?
daemon, guilty asf right next to her:
rhaenys knowing it was his ass instantly:
Honestly the people who say that Aegon II is a good father because he didn't really touch his daughter under the pretext that she would be like Helaena are killing me in their bullshit.
There's no confirmation that his daughter hates being touched. She didn't have any type of startle when Aegon brought his hand closer and barely touched it. She acted like she didn't care about his presence or noticed her, just interested in her toys.
And I remind you that he just approached her to look for her son and when he saw that it wasn't him he had no interest in this kid and he is more than certain that the interest sudden decision that Aegon II bears to his son is only because he is now his heir to the throne.
Be reasonable, this guy doesn't even know that his son has lessons or even where...
*Alicent and Criston waking into the small council room*
Otto :
EMMA D’ARCY WE WILL FIGHT FOR YOUR EMMY
HOTD S2 EP1 SPOILERS
she blames me for starting the war after she plotted with my father’s council to usurp the throne
her grace is speaking in two tongues
my hatred for criston cole is unmatched
As much as I do not like B&C being an act of chance/an accident as they were there for Aemond. I do love that, like how the show did Lucerys’ death, it’s an accident. Neither Aemond nor Daemon could control the tools they had, and they killed someone they weren’t trying to, and now everything is worse!
The parallel is great even if the impact of B&C is lacking! Still horrifying, I don’t mean it should be like more explicit, I rather just wish they had kept the intentionality of making Helaena choose and then flipping her choice on her. It’s not just murder it’s psychological torture to boot which is why, in the book about murder and war crimes, it REALLY stands out.
Oohhhhhhh, so fucking Rhaenyra is a massive stain on Criston's honour (that he was willing to die for), but its OK if he's Alicent's fuckbuddy. Love the mental gymnastics...
my thoughts on ep 1 of s2:
1. i like how quiet this episode was on the blacks side, not much was said (apart of daemon's scenes), baela did not say a word and only comforted jace with gesture, rhaenyra said just one line!!! (and emma slays the whole episode), jace's cracking voice, funeral is very quiet, actors played only with their bodies, chills
2. i love the corlys's scene, "i had this comissioned for prince lucerys" THAT HURTS, are you kidding me? THE PEARL OF DRIFTMARK
3. glad that they showed rhaena during the funeral, i wished we saw scene with dragon twins comforting each other or sth, rhaena spent 6 years with luke on the dragonstone, she was supposed marry him and they took it from her, i wanted more
4. alicole is disgusting, hate both of this hypocrites, slutshaming rhae and tormenting her for years, just to screw each other. the scene when cole asks alicent to put the white cloaks on him was great, she, as (dowager) queen, gives him once again a symbol of honor that he doesn't deserve
5. b&c scene was... there, ig. next red wedding my ass. where's the horror in choosing the child by helaena? or begging to take her life instead of a child? i loved phia's acting and the scene with helaena leaving the room with jaehaera in her arms only with the sounds of jaehaerys' murder in the background but i wished the scene looked more similar to book!b&c. helaena walking into the room where alicole fuck each other? it looked grotesque
6. kinda annoying daemon's mostly shows his love to the children by violence, i liked him trashing rhaenys and erryk, very in character (and also bc i hate rhaenys' scene in ep9), "son for a son" line was there, except everything again is "by accident", like blood and cheese went to helaena by accident...? cutting the scene before daemon's answer was a mistake. was "son for a son" everything he said? did he mean aegon perhaps or jaehaerys or either? it would be smarter to kill aemond or aegon but more cruel to go for a child. we know daemon can be cruel but since he wanted to go with rhaenys after aemond, he's no fool. i'd prefer to have daemon directly saying how far he can go to avenge luke. but absolutely love daemon with his crime cloak
7. aegon is an idiot who don't know how to rule (OBVIOUSLY, BC HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THE KING, HE WASN'T PREPARED FOR IT AND HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE OTTO'S PUPPET), only tries to gain sympathy from people, father of the year who doesn't even know where his son spends time and not interested in any way in his daughter. notice how the servants reacted when he entered the room, i hate that little asshole
8. is alicent really surprised that her father undermines her, A WOMAN, after she helped him usurped rhaenyra exactly because she is A WOMAN herself??
9. cheese you're gonna burn in hell, KICKING A DOG? and he looked kinda sad for helaena? DUDE, YOU'RE CAUSING HER PAIN, why are you so weird about the fact that your crime is criming
10. nice moments: rhaenyra jumping off of a dragon looked really cool, also the wall, cregan and jace's talk, jace and joffrey on funeral, jaehaerys tormenting tyland, "fuck hightowers", rhaenyra and syrax mourning together the loss of their children
11. acting wise emma and harry carried this episode; phia and phoebe did the best with amount of screentime and script they got
my thoughts on episode 2 episode 3 episode 4 episode 5 episode 6 episode 7 episode 8
This is every Team Black fan with Helaena rn 😭
It makes me so angry that there was no one protecting her, the queen left her rooms in the middle of the night and there was absolutely no one.
died 131 AC, born 1984(?). welcome back aegon ii targaryen
Saw your brief comment about B&C and I agree with you, the writing wasn't it. The sounds were awful but them alone didn't really move me. I get Helaena's reactions aren't what's considered usual in general but Phia is amazing and deserved something better from the writers.
I will say the same thing I just said in another ask—the writers chose the cheap sounds of gore instead of the gut-wrenching bartering and the horrifying choice Helaena makes in the book.
She chooses Maelor over Jaehaerys because as a mother she thinks it's the merciful choice, as he is a baby and doesn't understand what is happening.
She makes that choice after offering herself, pleading they kill her instead, and under the threat that they will assault her daughter if she doesn't choose.
I understand they might have wanted to portray shock, but it is badly done. Again, I'm talking purely about the way the scene and the characters are written. Phia Saban did an amazing job with what she was given.
