Someone needs to study why everyone who meets Xiao Xingchen becomes permanently obsessed with him.
A-Qing knew him for about five minutes and was like, yeah I’m gonna follow him around for the rest of my life.
Song Lan is more subtle about this, but I want people to remember that they knew each other for only about a year, max two years. And after their parting he spent his whole time searching for Xiao Xingchen and now will spend the rest of his life trying to heal his soul. He’s a little more stable about it, I would say, but still.
And then Xue Yang, I don’t think that needs any explanation.
After rewatching the Yi City Arc (again) I felt the need to draw him
Do ya'll ever think about how every character in MDZS is living in a radically different genre of story?
Cause yeah, sure Wei Wuxian is living in a danmei fantasy novel with strong romantic comedy elements, but if you slide over a bit Lan Wangji is living a serious and heady drama about regret, loss, yearning, the passage of time, and ultimately atonement.
Scooch on over to Xichen and your in a straight up Greek tragedy, right down to the parable about hubris and trust. Jin Guangyao is living meanwhile in a political dark fantasy al'la Game of Thrones, Nie Huaisang is in a Gothic moody Monte Cristo-esque reflection on revenge and deception, and while Lan Sizhuhi and Jin Ling are living in two VERY different YA fantasy books ('magic boarding school/secret orphan of destiny' and 'Steven Universe style coming of age/discovering all your family are some flavor of evil and magic' respectively).
Everyone connected to Yi City is living inside a dark psychological thriller/horror flick, except for Xue Yang who is in a Found Family/Enemies to Lover fic right up until he isn't.
Jiang Cheng's entire life has been one long soap opera, and it is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
I am looking for a FanFiction about Jin Guangyao, Xue Yang, Su She and Mo Xuanyu working together on some task (for example deciphering Wei Wuxian's texts etc.). Preferably humor or absurdist comedy. Does anything exists?

Okay but like Wen Kexing at least wanted redemption in doing good things to clear his name in the end; Xue Yang was evil and he knew it to the point that even when he found the life he could have had and a family he wanted, he couldn't help ruining it and never admitting that he did anything wrong. His "regret" manifested in doing even MORE insane stuff to try and maintain control and push the blame onto others.
I love both of these unhinged boys but at least my lovely Wen Kexing got his senses back with the power of true love and eyeliner-remover

And then next episode he’s like “oh poor little old me I can’t even kill a chicken. who is going to take care of me I’m just a humble little philanthropist who needs a big strong man to protect me.” babygirl you’ve led a bloody reign of terror for like 8 years now after skinning your predecessor alive and the people known as being the most cutthroat and evil in the whole martial arts world literally call you Lunatic Wen because you regularly gruesomely kill your subordinates to make examples of them…. He recognized a boy he met once as a child 20 years later by his shoulder blades and decided to marry him right then and there. He decided to not burn down the entire world because he wanted to become a housewife. If he was hinged once, he no longer is now."
Xue Yang: "Spoilers but this man had his pinky finger run over as a child and decided to murder literally everyone in retaliation. He thought ending many lives equated to his loss of the smallest and least useful appendage on one hand. He tricked a man into murdering the love of his life so that he could continue being with him (the man was blind and didn’t know who he was). When the man found out what he did he killed himself and xue yang tried to reanimate him. Sick. Twisted. Unhinged."

Submission 1: They’re kinda like dark mirrors of each other if you think about it. They both lost the object of their obsession to self-destruction of some kind. They both refuse to move on from said obsession and have built themselves into monuments mourning them (Xue Yang with his preservation of Xiao Xingchen’s body and the way he literally impersonates Xiao Xingchen and Lan Wangji branding himself and going around dressed for mourning). They have each taken in what physical remnants of their obsession remain (Xue Yang turning Song Lan into a fierce corpse and holding onto Yi City and Lan Wangji taking in and raising Sizhui). Each of them admire the other’s object of obsession to some extent (Xue Yang idolizes Wei Wuxian for his cultivation method and Lan Wangji praised Xiao Xingchen for his ideals and sense of justice). This is to say I could totally see these guys recognizing their common grief and latching onto each other as a result. Doing mutual proxyfucking or some shit

"Xiao Xingchen" saying this to Wei Wuxian is just. Gnawing my own arm off. I can't.
Like. Argh. Yeah, of course Xue Yang is a survivor. Feral street cat. Bobcat. Palas cat. He wants to live, he will live, and thrive, and every second of being alive is a middle finger to the former Chang clan leader and to everyone else who treated him like something they stepped in when he was just a kid who needed help.
But he's also saying this as Xiao Xingchen. As him, about him. As if saying this while pretending to be Xiao Xingchen will make it true for Xiao Xingchen.
He's as determined to raise Xiao Xingchen as he is to survive himself - and the howling, desperate Why of it all is killing him. Can't Xue Yang want to live enough for both of them? Why doesn't Xiao Xingchen want to live, like Xue Yang? Why doesn't Xiao Xingchen want to live like Xue Yang?
